In November 2009 the nine BSA units in Carbondale joined together for participation in the annual Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food 2009 food drive and collected over 10,000 food items, about 3,000 more than in 2008. Way to go Carbondale area! Items were distributed to the Good Samaritan food pantry ran by the Interfaith Council in Carbondale (http://www.cdaleinterfaith.org) and the Community Cupboard ran by Praise Central Church of Deliverance (http://www.feedingillinois.org/need/search.php?county=Jackson).

The Kaskaskia District of the Greater St. Louis Area Council collected a total of 45,360 food items, a record for Kaskaskia District. The items were distributed to 20 food pantries in the 6 southernmost western counties in Illinois -- Perry, Jackson, Johnson, Alexander, Union and Pulaski.
